Corel Procreate KPT Effects
KPT or Kai’s Power Tools was orginally developed by Kai Kraus but has changed hands many times since those days. The current owner is Corel with their new creative wing, Procreate.
KPT Effects is a series of 9 Photoshop-style filters that install into Photoshop’s Plug-ins folder and are selected from the Filters menu. These effects are manipulated by the user by way of KPT’s award winning interface and are fun and easy to experiment with.
Unlike the original Kai’s Power Tools, KPT Effects offers very little in the way of practical or useful filters for the graphics professional. Almost anyone who isn’t into tie-dye or 1960′s era psychadelic rock posters will find nothing in this package that can be used more than once (if at all) in a professional piece.
MacMerc’s Field Manual Breakdown:
Corel Procreate KPT Effects
Price:
$199 US
Performance:
The interface is smooth, eligant and unintimidating. Unfortunately the filters themselves are limited to use on Jimi Hendrix album covers.
Compatability:
Requires Mac OS 8.6 or higher. Runs natively in Mac OS X. Runs on a PowerMac with a 180+ MHz processor, 160MB RAM and 25MB hard drive space. Also requires either Adobe Photoshop®, Corel PHOTO-PAINT® or Corel® Painter 6 or 7 to run.
Complaints:
Can’t imagine how I would use these filters to do anything practical.
