SmartDisk PowerPlay Pro

Sick of lugging your laptop to every presentation? The PowerPlay combines the convenience of wireless control with the portability of a USB flash drive.

This is a great combination of features. By now, we all know how useful and compatible USB flash drives are, so you don’t need reminding that they mount without drivers in OS X, 9 and Windows XP.

Portable flash drives are a great way to skirt compatibility problems, and are a convenient and small way to carry files. At 32 megs, the PowerPlay isn’t huge, but is a good size for a couple good presentations.

However, the main feature of the PowerPlay is not the flash drive, it is the driverless, wireless remote. So, not only can you ditch your laptop and take your presentation on a flash drive, you can wow your audience with wireless control.

The PowerPlay’s two components have a nice streamlines feel, and the remote is even outfitted with a laser pointer. The remote is battery powered.

The PowerPlay adds freedom to almost every aspect of your digital presentation. It is PowerPoint and Keynote compatible, so when the tech guy asks if you need a Mac or a PC, you can answer “either” with confidence.

The downside? The remote has only the simplest 4 buttons (back, next, black screen and end slideshow). Because it is driverless, there isn’t any customizing of the buttons either.
