StudioBoss

If you freelance (and a lot of MacMerc readers do) get ready to drool. StudioBoss is a FileMaker based application written by a designer for designers. If you’re
a programmer or some other type of freelancer, don’t worry it works fine for
about everytype of work. StuidoBoss lets you keep track of how long you’ve
worked on a project, who you’re working for, how much they owe you and just
about every other detail you need to know.

You first enter in your information (this is for the invoices and such) and
then enter in the information of the company/person you are doing work for.
You can include lots of information, even a picture or company logo. When you’re
starting a new project, you just select what company it’s with, the project’s
name, some meta information and billing information (hourly wage and such)

When you sit down to actually work for the client just hit the New Activity
button and it keeps track of the time for you. It’s basically an automated
time clock. You can title each working period for reference at the end of the
project. Once you’ve completed everything, it uses those hours to compute how
much to bill.

The best part of this program is the ease of billing. It’s amazing.
The Reports menu has tons of options, and the invoices all look very professional.
Gone are the days of slaving over nice templates and spreadsheets.

StudioBoss costs $40 and is well worth it. I know for the projects I used
it for, I saved more than $40 worth of time. There is a free demo online, and
it works for both OS 9 and OS X.

…and now for something completely different.
