The Best of The Joy of Tech

If, like me, you missed Nitrozac and Snaggy’s virtual book signing earlier this morning of their new book, The Best of The Joy of Tech, take heart. Although you missed out on the event, you can still check out the pictures and read my review.

The Best of The Joy of Tech

The challenge: write an unbiased review of Nitrozac and Snaggy’s new book,
"The
Best of The Joy of Tech."
We at MacMerc.com have kept a "Latest
Joy"
link on the site pretty much since we started. We’ve collaborated
on an
icon set
. Heck, I’m a SuperFan
for corn-sakes! I even wear the ill-fated "Mac
Genius"
emblem not only as a T-shirt, but on a polo and a cap! (not
all at the same time, mind you) How can I be unbiased?

Easy. Nitrozac and Snaggy forgot to mention us in the special thanks. After
all we’ve been through–nothing!

So now that my relationship with Nitrozac and Snaggy is on shaky ground and
I’m re-evaluating every email I’ve ever sent or received from them, let me have
a look at this book again..

The World According to JoT

The 190 pages of this paperback volume cover exactly what the title would lead
you to believe: the best of what the
Joy of Tech website
has come to mean to its many fans. And by that, don’t
think I mean just the comics, although that is certainly the majority of what
is contained therein. But in addition to hundreds of top notch Joy of Tech panels,
each page is layed out so as to kind of "re-address" each comic’s
subject matter. Then at the back of the book you’ll find not only the original
"Joy Poll" that accompanied each comic when it first appeared on JoyofTech.com
along with the poll results, but there is also a brief entry by Nitrozac and/or
Snaggy giving a little anecdote or explanation about the piece. This is far
more than just printed copies of a few comics off the JoT site, folks; they’ve
downloaded the spirit of Joy of Tech into a perfect-bound creation.

With an introduction by David
"Missing Manual" Pogue
and a forward by Steve
"Woz" Wozniak
, Nitrozac and Snaggy’s first edition into the world
of print is anything but an amateur outing. There are a ton of great comics
in here …I lost count after 180…organized under 12 subjects including "Geek
Love", "Joy of Mac" and "4NI//A| CR4CK3R5." There
are even a few comics produced especially for the book and a lexicon of geeky
words and phrases that, until now, only the most hardcore JoT fans understood!

With every page of The
Best of The Joy of Tech
you’ll get a chuckle, an insight or even learn something
new…like:

Who is the defender of GNU and the open source way?

What does it mean to be Nitrodotted?

How did Snaggy get his name and what do a cowboy, an alien and a
sweater obsessed poet from Toronto
have to do with it?

Get
the book,
and find out what sites like Macsurfer.com, Powerpage.org, Macinstein.com,
iPodlounge.com and MacMerc.com…oops! there is mention of us in the book
after all …WE’RE IN PRINT!!! Thanks Nitrozac and Snaggy! …er, uh, …
yeah,
get
the book,
and find out what the rest of us have known all along–there is
joy in the Joy of Tech.

…and now for something completely different.
