Free online help not as available as it once was…

In an announcement made yesterday, the troubleshooting gurus at MacFixIt have put decided to put a price on their extensive archive of bug fixes and workarounds.
Many may feel outraged at such a developement — I did. But if you think of how much valuable information thay have provided the Mac community for free for so many years and how they continue to stay on top of every report of computer malfunction no matter how insignificant, charging a small subscription fee seems more than fair and one may wonder how they could provide this service for free for as long as they have.

Firewire predicted to be the wave of the home networking future

In a story by Cahners In-Stat Group, Firewire (or IEEE 1394) is seen to be the technology that will bring the mass market onto home networks.
Current home networks are centered around the computer and are limited to printer sharing and internet access distribution but the marketing analysts see that this kind of system is inefficient for moving audio and video streams. This kind of function is much more difficult than moving data, as multimedia streams require a greater amount of bandwidth, and the ability to deliver in real time. That’s where Firewire comes in.
