QuickerTek antenna extends wireless range of Apple Time Capsule
QuickerTek has developed an antenna upgrade for both models of the Apple Time Capsule wireless backup system that offers up to 50% greater wireless coverage allowing backups from greater distances and though more walls and floors.
The QuickerTek Time Capsule Antenna Array repositions three much stronger 3dBi antennas outside the Time Capsule case, enabling better signal range and speed during backups. The antenna array are matched to extend the 802.11n signal through multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) to deliver highest speed “n” wireless networking.
The Time Capsule Antenna Upgrade works with all IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n devices and performs to it’s full speed (near 300 mbps) potential with 802.11n rated hardware.
The Antenna Upgrade kit includes the antenna array, coax cable and detailed instruction manual. The upgrade should not be attempted by someone without any prior upgrade experience. Customers can have QuickerTek can upgrade their Time Capsule by shipping it to QuickerTek. They perform the upgrade and then ship the unit back to the customer the same day it was received. QuickerTek also offers complete upgraded 500GB or 1TB Time Capsules. Visit the QuickerTek website for details and pricing breakdowns.

QuickerTek brings 802.11a/b/g/n to the Mac mini
QuickerTek has announced a new 802.11 upgrade for Mac Mini Intel computers. Most notable is the addition of 802.11a wireless – a feature not even available from Apple. It is available as both a user-installed product for USD$149.95, or QuickerTek can install the upgrade for the customer for USD$199.95 (including the upgrade and installation but excluding users choice of shipping).
This upgrade provides 802.11 a/b/g/n compatibility for complete wireless network freedom. The upgrade also has an external antenna for ‘a’ wireless as well as three antennas for MIMO wireless – which enables the Mac Mini to easily reach top wireless speeds not previously possible on accessible networks.
The user-installed upgrade includes the high speed 802.11 upgrade card, external antennas, cabling, tools and illustrated installation manual–everything needed to install the Mac Mini upgrade.
The installation service is available using any shipping option the customer chooses, with shipping charges added to the $199.95 installed upgrade cost. The upgrade service allows the customer to pay for the exact shipping speed and company they prefer.

Apple posts AirPort Extreme Update 2007-004
Apple has posted a little wifi fix in your Software Update utility today. The run down on what this update brings is short and sweet:
This update is recommended for all Intel-based MacBook, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini computers and improves the reliability of AirPort connections.
Yes, short, sweet and vague as hell.
Note:
QuickerTek upgrades your wifi to the Nth degree… at your own risk
QuickerTek has just announced the availability of 802.11n wireless upgrade cards for Apple, Intel MacBook, Intel MacBook Pro models and Intel iMacs. Users can choose to buy the card and install it themselves for $149 USD, or send their computer to QuickerTek to have the card installed for only USD$199.
The latest 802.11n wireless network gear just announced by Apple has left many users lagging in wireless performance options. This new upgrade for QuickerTek customers allows MacBook and iMac users to stay current with the benefits of the fastest wireless. These wireless networking cards are made to the same specifications as the Apple factory cards and install into the AirPort card slot. They work with all 802.11/b/g/n WiFi equipment including Apple AirPort, AirPort Extreme and the latest 802.11n version of AirPort Extreme introduced at Macworld Expo.
The user-installed upgrade option includes the 802.11n upgrade card, tools and illustrated installation manual–everything needed to complete the upgrade at home. It should be noted that Apple has recently let it be known that Airport card installation is not a Do-It-Yourself procedure and that installing your own wireless card will void your warranty.
The installation upgrade service is available using any shipping option the customer chooses with shipping and handling charges added to the USD$199 product cost. Since this wireless upgrade uses standard parts, no drivers or other changes need to be made, nor are additional steps required to use the higher speed ‘N’ upgrade.
QuickerTek’s 802.11n upgrade card is compatible with Intel flat-panel iMacs, Intel MacBooks and Intel MacBook Pros.
Note:
MacBidouille/Hardmac Wireles N hack gets a thumbs down from Apple
Apple is obviously aware of the Airport hack posted to MacBidouille/Hardmac last week. The hack showed how users of Core Duo Intel Macs could use the Airport card from the Core 2 Dup iMac to get up to speed with 802.11n.
In a report circulated by Apple today, this maneuver is relegated to the “how to void your warranty” file.
The AirPort Extreme Card sold for use in Mac Pro and some iMac computers is not supported in any other products and could cause damage if installed in them. Because of this possibility, the AirPort Extreme Card is not a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) part and requires installation by Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASPs).
So basically, you can’t install it yourself under warranty, nor can an Authorized Service Provider install it for you. Buy a new Mac.
Note:
Hardmac.com shows Core Duo-based MacBook owners how to go 802.11n
I have to admit I was a little miffed that Core 2 Duo MacBook users are able to upgrade to the latest wireless network standard with a simple firmware upgrade. I was further annoyed at how these second generation Intel Mac owners whined about the minimal price they were asked to pay for this upgrade. Now I can grouse with the rest of them because Hardmac.com (Macbidouille for you Francophones) has the scoop on how older Intel Mac users can get in on the n action.
Note:
Have yourself a Quicky–USB device doubles wireless performance
QuickerTek has announced the first transceiver/ antenna for wireless networking that only requires a USB port connection. According to QuickTek’s press release, the Quicky boosts wireless range and signal strength at least twice the standard range of the 12-, 15- and 17-inch Apple PowerBooks. While the announcement only mentions PowerBooks, the photos on QuickerTek’s website (seen here also) as well as the write-up found there indicate that this product is also compatible with the MacBook, MacBook Pro or any Mac with USB and wireless capability.
Continuing with the copy provide to us from the press release: the Quicky is a small product that easily clips (temporarily) to the PowerBook case top and features a small antenna. The Quicky is a unique combination of the power of a transceiver and an antenna. It requires no computer skills to either set up or use and is completely transparent to the PowerBook user. Once Quicky is clipped to the case and the short USB cord is plugged into the PowerBook’s USB port, it’s ready to use.
Quicky has 500 milliwatts of RF (wireless) power — that’s ten times the amount that the best PowerBook can muster. The Quicky, with it’s built-in antenna, clipped to the PowerBook case is up and out of the restrictions of the PowerBook chassis and therefore affords better signal reception. So, users get both more power and an antenna that is free from the PowerBook case.
The Quicky from QuickerTek requires Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 and costs USD$225.00…. ouch.
Note:
QuickerTek upgrades give AirPort Base Stations five times more wireless range
QuickerTek announces an upgrade to Apple AirPort Base Stations that will provide up to five times the wireless range at full signal strength than the stock Base Station. The catch is that you have to send your Base Station to QuickerTek for the upgrade (USD$200)
The upgrade is available for all Apple AirPort Base Stations (except the graphite model) and includes AirPort Extreme. The upgrade option for your Base Station is shipped back to you the
same day it is received. You decide what shipping options you need. Customers pay for shipping in to QuickerTek and QuickerTek pays return ground shipping to the customer.
Don’t feel like sending you Base Station away? Don’t have a Base Station? Customers who do not own a Base Station or don’t want to send their’s away may choose to simply purchase an already-upgraded refurbished Base Station from QuickerTek for USD$350 plus shipping.
Note:
MacBook Pro Connect – hassle-free wifi signal boost
QuickerTek has announced the new MacBook Pro Connect. It’s a super antenna for the MacBook Pro (USD$199.95) that eliminates the need to open the computer case to attach cables to the internal wireless card and thus making improved wireless performance within the reach of every MacBook Pro user.
MacBook Pro Connect is available in two versions – one powered by either the included AC power adapter or through USB and the other is powered through an internal battery (USD$229.95 model). Like most QuickerTek products, it’s backed with a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
