Macromedia Flashing in Victoria’s Secret’s virtual dressing room!

This passed Wednesday, Macromedia, Inc. announced that a new online application by Victoria’s Secret, the leading specialty retailer of intimate apparel and beauty products, is using Macromedia Flash and ColdFusion to quickly and efficiently deliver a great user experience for the company’s new Swim Separates collection. The collection enables people to mix and match swim tops and bottoms in different styles, colors, and sizes, and then purchase their favorite combinations. The Swim Separates application is available immediately at www.victoriassecret.com.
Victoria’s Secret uses Macromedia ColdFusion Serve to update the Macromedia Flash experience in real-time to: reflect the store’s real-time pricing and inventory, indicate which alternate colors are available, and manage the purchase process without taking users out of the application.

"Macromedia Flash and ColdFusion enabled us to write one application for all customers, instead of having to fine-tune specific content for several different browsers and platforms," said Jonathan Doklovic, Senior Programmer Analyst, Victoria’s Secret Direct.
"For the end user, the application is a more immersive, fluid experience that loads faster and lets them focus on the swimwear they want and not the technology."

"Victoria’s Secret is one of the most powerful brands in the world, and Macromedia technology lets them bring their sense of style and intimacy online in a way that perfectly reflects that brand," said Jeremy Allaire, chief technology officer, Macromedia. "The seamless browsing and shopping experience does what a rich application is supposed to do: let users accomplish their goals, anticipate their needs, and stay out of their way."

By using Macromedia ColdFusion to deliver personalized data and content based on user interaction, the Swim Separates application can add new content to Macromedia Flash Player, without having to refresh the page. If the user selects a specific top, bottoms that match that color and style automatically appear on the screen. By combining the rapid development capabilities of ColdFusion with the rich interactivity of Macromedia Flash, Victoria’s Secret was able to deliver a unique and compelling user experience in a short amount of time.
