Quark offers students free commercial use of QuarkXPress with education license

quarkxpress 20070717 215446 Quark offers students free commercial use of QuarkXPress with education licenseQuark today announced a new program that enables students to use their QuarkXPress education licenses to produce creative materials for the marketplace while still in school. Students can also continue using their education licenses for the current version of QuarkXPress after graduation for commercial design and production. Quark has also extended this policy to education licenses for Quark Interactive Designer and Quark Print Collection.

Quark now also enables students to upgrade to the latest version of QuarkXPress after graduation at the commercial upgrade price — eliminating the need for purchasing a full copy of QuarkXPress. In addition, students are able to use their Education licenses for QuarkXPress on either Mac or Windows.

Quark goes Canadian. Now offers support for the superfluous U.

430941270 01a87f18e7 m Quark goes Canadian. Now offers support for the superfluous U.I’m not a QuarkXPress user anymore, but I am Canadian, so I couldn’t pass up this story:

Quark announced yesterday that it will release a new edition of QuarkXPress 7 for Canadian customers. QuarkXPress 7 Canadian Edition will include English and French manuals, spell check and hyphenation functionality and will start shipping to distribution partners in the second quarter of 2007.

“Quark is responding to the requirements of Canadian customers, as well as the French language requirements of the Quebec government, by providing software that fully supports both French and English-speaking users” said Richard Pasewark, Quark’s senior vice president of Sales (Americas). “Canadian users now have an attractive option to purchase or upgrade to QuarkXPress 7 and benefit from its workflow and collaboration features for the same price as the English version of QuarkXPress. We are pleased to make QuarkXPress 7 easily accessible to French and English-speaking customers.”

QuarkXPress 7 Canadian Edition provides user interfaces in both French and English. Users can switch freely between these languages and use fully localized menus and windows in QuarkXPress. In addition, it supports spell-checking and full text authoring, following specific hyphenation and justification rules for French, U.S. English, and International English.

Customers who purchase the U.S. English version of QuarkXPress 7 between January 1, 2007 and September 30, 2007 can exchange their license to QuarkXPress 7 Canadian Edition at no charge when it becomes available. QuarkXPress 7 Canadian Edition will be available in Q2 2007. Pricing for QuarkXPress 7 Canadian Edition will be USD$749 for a full license or USD$249 when upgrading from a previous version of QuarkXPress.

So, as an English speaking Canadian, this USD$249 upgrade offers me spell check that doesn’t flag superfluous “u”s in words like “favourite,” “labour” and “neighbour” …a problem most Canadians have learned to work around in the years since QuarkXPress debuted back in 1987. Thanks, Quark!!
