Futiro Luna USB VOIP phone

phone 20080414 201858 Futiro Luna USB VOIP phoneI recently had the opportunity to test the Futiro Luna USB VOIP phone with Skype Pro. The Luna has been a major asset on my desk in the past weeks, making it easy for me to both call and answer from a sleek, slim phone connected directly to Skype. Not only does the Luna look great, it also sounds great, and it even includes a speaker phone mode.

On the front side there are 16 buttons and a volume control. The buttons include 0-9 keys, #, *, a call button, hang up button, back button and a speaker phone button, with an LED above that to let you know the status. Near the top sits the standard speaker, and on the back is the speaker phone (mic and speaker). It is slightly weighted, so it will not topple over, and features a coiled USB cable.

The Luna has integrated very well into my workflow. For the last few days I stopped making calls with my land line and used Skype Pro. I found it to be almost flawless. It integrated perfectly with Skype Pro, and behaved exactly as a traditional phone would.

Using Skype Pro, the call quality was fantastic. I even had a comment from someone who I was speaking with asking how I got my phone to be so clear. At $3 per month, Skype Pro is super affordable, especially considering it includes unlimited calling within the United States and Canada, free voicemail, and a discount on a SkypeIn phone number.

For me, the Luna was almost perfect. I would have preferred a longer USB cable, but I was able to easily deal with this issue by adding a USB extension cable in.

Despite some issues in the beginning with the Futiro Luna’s software, it is an amazing product. Along with Skype Pro, it is a perfect solution for long distance calling. I would recommend this product to everyone who frequently uses Skype, or to those who make many long distance calls.

AudioEngine AW1 Wireless Adapter

AudioEngine AW1 Wireless Adapter 20080414 201759 AudioEngine AW1 Wireless Adapter
The AudioEngine AW1 Wireless Adapters are an amazing new product for making your audio wireless. I tested them with my MacBook Pro and my Bose Companion 5s. There are two main components: a sender and a receiver. They are powered by USB, and allow you to send and receive sound over either USB or a 3.5mm jack.

Included in the box is the sender unit, the receiver unit, a USB power adapter, and a couple of cables for connecting the system to various audio devices. The setup was quite easy, I plugged the sender into my MacBook Pro with USB, connected the receiver to my speakers with the 3.5mm cable, then I went to System Preferences and configured my sound to go through them.

The quality of the system is superb. At no point during my testing was there ever any interference with the system or any dropouts. I was able to send the sound out through three floors with no loss of sound quality, and no drop out as expected with other systems.

Before testing the AW1s, I was skeptical of the true power of this system. To get an accurate gauge of the strength of this system, I tried a similar setup with my AirPort Express and Airfoil. The results were remarkable–no comparison–the AW1s blew the AirPort Express away.

Since the AudioEngine AW1s do not use Wifi or Bluetooth, they can be used with any audio device, not just a computer. I was able to use the W1s to send music from my TV to stereo, my Playstation to my TV, my iPod to my stereo, and many other configurations.

The AudioEngine AW1s are truely an amazing product, and there’s not one thing I would change about them. I would highly recommend them to all, and I can not wait to see more innovations such as this one come out of AudioEngine in the future.

BeLight Live Interior 3D

Live Interior 3D is an amazing application from BeLight Software. It allows you to be your own interior designer, and design your own rooms exactly how you want them to look. There are over 1000 professionally made objects, such as chairs, tables and lamps.

bedroom 20080331 211302 BeLight Live Interior 3DI’ve been playing around with Live Interior 3D for the last few weeks, and I have found it very easy to arrange furniture and make complete buildings. The only thing that I found to be a little difficult is navigating around within the virtual environment.

There is one very powerful feature that I would like to highlight; you are not limited by the thousands of items included in Live Interior 3D, within the application, you have access to Google 3D Warehouse, where you can download tons of additional items to use in your designs.

I would highly suggest you download the trial of Live Interior 3D before purchasing; it is a great application, but it’s not for everyone. The views are a bit tricky to master, and the final export does not necessarily show what was envisioned in your head. To me, the only problem with Live Interior 3D is that, because it is an innovative and complex product, it can seem a bit complicated. If you put in the time to learn it, I think you’ll find that BeLight has done a very good job.
