Eminem iPod video ad only the most recent example of Apple copying Lugz

63790358 d9a3cd5dd4 m Eminem iPod video ad only the most recent example of Apple copying LugzI started a forum thread and poll about the Lugz vs. Apple controversy and in the discussion, it occurred to me that the iTunes + iPod TV Ad featuring Eminem ad may not be the first time Apple lifted ideas from the Lugz “Arrow” ad from 2002… it may just be the most recent and most obvious.

As I’m sure you are all aware, Lugz footwear has sent a cease-and-desist letter to both Apple Computer and its ad agency, TBWA/Chiat/Day, over the obvious similarities between their ad and the Eminem spot that launched about a month ago at the announcement of Apple’s iPod with video.

McCann-Erickson France Moves to QuarkXPress 6

Yesterday in a press release issued by Quark it was learned that top advertising agency, McCann-Erickson France, has chosen to stick with QuarkXPress for the long haul in spite of the growing trend away from that particular layout application and toward Adobe InDesign.

“For us, QuarkXPress 6 represents a long-term investment both financially and in terms of operator expertise,” said Patrick Lorrain, managing director of McCann-Erickson France. “Our teams have always worked with this software, so we were confident that the transition to the new version would be smooth and would not disrupt our activities in any way.” …wishful thinking?

The real story here is answered by these questions: “What is newsworthy about an ad agency not switching its layout software?” and “Who cares if they are upgrading to Quark 6?” The answer to both is that Quark is hoping that the decision of one agency in France will convince you to ignore the numerous announcements of other agencies and firms that they have left Quark for InDesign.
