Bohemian Coding releases FontCase font management app
I’m a fairly new Linotype FontExplorer X user, but I’m not won over so much that my eye has not been caught by the beauty of Fontcase. This new app made by Pieter Omvlee of Bohemian Coding is a font management application that offers a more Leopard-like interface to help you organize your fonts. Omvlee says it has been designed to be an iTunes for your fonts.
Since Fontcase can preview any font whether it is activated or not from all over your Mac’s filesystem, you can keep all your fonts in Fontcase and preview and activate them when you need them. The app also allows you to print TypeBook-style previews.
As I write this, Fontcase is importing my font data from Linotype FontExplorer X and it has already alerted me to a few damaged fonts. So, it’s not just a pretty face; it’s got your back too.
The one problem I see for my own workflow is the lack of automatic activation. Hopefully, plug-ins for common design applications are in the works, but until such time, I’ll stick with Linotype FontExplorer X. Still, I’m intrigued at some of the features Bohemian Coding has added to this app and I’ll be keeping an eye out for updates.
Fontcase sells for 42 Euro, but for a limited time it’s going for 35 Euro. The license gets you free updates until the next major update.
