Apple Announces Mac OS X Server ‘Tiger’

Apple today
announced that Mac OS X Server version 10.4 “Tiger” will be available on
Friday, April 29, at the same time as the Mac OS X version 10.4 “Tiger”
desktop version. The next major release of Apple’s UNIX-based
server operating system, Tiger Server integrates over 100 leading open source
projects and standards-based software applications with easy-to-use management
tools that make it easy to deploy for Mac, Windows and Linux clients. Tiger
Server has over 200 new features including native support for 64-bit
applications, ideal for high performance computing; iChat Server to deploy
secure instant messaging within an organization; Weblog Server that makes it
simple to publish and share weblogs (blogs); and Xgrid to make it easy to
turn a group of Macs into a virtual supercomputer.

MacUpdate updates MacUpdate Desktop. Version 4.2 Released

MacUpdate Desktop is an application from the folks at MacUpdate.com that helps keep all of the software on your Macintosh up-to-date with the latest releases. It monitors and highlights outdated applications on your Mac, giving you the option to download and update each to the latest release. Version 4.2 was released today, read on for the added features.
Version 4.2 adds the following new features:

  • Added a toolbar menu, making it much easier to manage your watch list, add and delete items.

  • Added a powerful Synchronization feature that allows you to synch new changes on your web based Watch List with the MacUpdate Desktop watch list, and vice versa.
  • Added the ability to add items to your watch list that are not already installed on your Mac.
  • Fixed numerous bugs in the graphical interface.
  • Enhanced the speed and memory usage of certain data retrieving processes.
