Phree Photo Tools

Photography is more than a hundred years old, but is changing all the time. Macs are a photag’s best friend, and so are this week’s free software picks.

We’ll look at everything from online image editors to effects to converters. We’ll even map your images out on Google Earth. Join me for a photastic Freeloader Friday.

Note:

Google Earth + Google SketchUp

What’s even better than super high-resolution satellite photos of your house and stratospheric zoom-ins? How about 3D rendered structures, complete with texture modeling.

With the advent of SketchUp you can go beyond browsing the Earth and begin adding your own 3D creations. A giant apple squashing the city of Redmond? You got it.

Get the links and the lowdown in this week’s Freeloader Friday.

166263069 5fb3a0959f m Google releases SketchUp for Mac OS X 10.4Today Google released the Mac OS X 10.4 version of SketchUp, an easy-to-learn 3D modeling program that enables you to explore the world in 3D. The program allows you to create 3D models of houses, sheds, decks, home additions, woodworking projects — even space ships. And once you’ve built your models, you can place them in Google Earth, post them to the 3D Warehouse, or print hard copies.

Google SketchUp is free for personal use. No registration is required.
