Mover Lite …transfer pics and contacts between iPhone, iPad and Mac

Mover Lite is the FREE version of Infinite Labs’ Mover+.1

The app runs on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and allows you to transfer contacts and photos between your iDevices over wifi. With a 99¢ add-on to the Lite app, you can also transfer those files to your desktop Mac running Mover Connect.

If you want to be able to transfer files between your devices when they’re not connected to wifi, Mover+ allows for connectivity and transfer over Bluetooth for $1.99.

I’ve found that the app runs very well between two devices, but can get a bit confused when you have three devices, like a Mac, an iPad and an iPhone, all connected as I show in the video. It works, but confusion is a possibility.

Mover has come in handy for me many times when I just wanted to transfer a photo and I don’t want to have to go through the trouble of emailing it to myself or some other such procedure.

As mentioned in the video, the iPad stand I’m using is the BookArc for iPad from Twelve South. It’s a nice sturdy metal stand that securely holds the iPad in either landscape or portrait2 orientations. It sells for around $45.

  1. I’m actually using Mover+ in the video, but I’m pushing Mover Lite here since it’s the FREE introductory app []

RSS Update

RSS feeds have evolved from simple news aggregation to become the glue that holds a web full of media together. A lot has changed since RSS came on the scene. It may be time to update your RSS applications.

Vienna also supports advanced features like tabs and smart folders.

NetNewsWire Lite

The free version of the long-time favorite feed reader. Rich with features, the beta version of the 2.1 release includes NewsGator synchronization. This new feature allows you to keep your read feeds in sync on multiple computers.

RSSOwl portable

RSSOwl is an excellent and very flexible feed reader. The cross-platform app features integrated feed search and a ton of viewing options. What’s more, this specially packaged version of RSSOwl lives and runs happily on your USB drive or iPod so you can take your subscriptions with you.

Photocast Viewer

This specialized reader is built to track photocasts built for photo-enabled iPods, but also supports Flickr photo streams.

The interface is rough (and pictures small), but the convenience of viewing these photocasts is handy.

FeedMe

Enough with viewing feeds, its time to create one. This straight-forward application makes it easy to create your own custom feeds.

FeedMe RSS Update

The tool supports photo embedding, but not podcast building (that would be nice). It is a spiffy way to build manual RSS feeds without editing XML.

That’s the end of this week’s freeware feed. Back next week with more.

ImageWell 3.5 released, free version discontinued

thumb1103 20080402 200041 ImageWell 3.5 released, free version discontinuedImageWell is a highly recommended light-weight image editing application that gives you the ability to resize, crop, watermark, and edit your images and then upload them to the web, save to your computer or share them via email. It allows you annotate your images with text, shapes and lines, quickly and easily and, new in version 3.5, in also allows you to sharpen your images too.

One of the many reasons why ImageWell has been so often recommended over the years is that the developer offered a free version that would have Xtras added to it if you registered for the fee of USD$19.95. Well, it no longer works like that and I can’t blame XtraLean Software for the change–like all shareware you use and enjoy, ImageWell is worth supporting and paying for. It represents a lot of hard work and the time and effort has a value. I hope you agree.

I encourage you to try the trial version and, if you like it, buy ImageWell and support the development of ImageWell 4.
