Steve Ballmer– Equal Opportunity Offender

Much has been made on the Mac web about Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer’s comments in a recent Silicon.com article where he claimed “The most common format of music on an iPod is ‘stolen’.”

Many Mac sites have taken this very personally as if his comments were an affront to all things Mac. But check back to July 2002 in your Mac history book and remember that iPods for Windows were announced about the same time as Jaguar! That gives the PC using music pirates two years to transfer their Napster (circa 2002), KaZaa and Grokster gained collections from their PC’s to their iPods.

Perhaps the most common format of music on an iPod is stolen but, pray tell, what is the most common format of music on a PC? If Mr. Ballmer’s comment is valid, it is more likely to be due to the nefarious ways of Windows using thieves than iTMS addicted Mac users.
