iLife ’08 and iWork ’08 released

ilife08 20070807 195527 iLife 08 and iWork 08 releasedApple today introduced iLife ’08 featuring a major new version of iPhoto and a completely reinvented iMovie. iPhoto ’08 automatically organizes photo libraries into Events that let users more easily manage their growing photo collections, and iMovie ’08 introduces an entirely new way for users to quickly make movies and share them online. Both iPhoto and iMovie integrate seamlessly with the new .Mac Web Gallery, Apple’s new service for .Mac members to instantly create and host online websites for their photos and videos. iLife ’08 also features iWeb ’08, with live web widgets such as Google Maps that let users create even more dynamic websites, and GarageBand ’08, with its new Magic GarageBand feature that makes it fun and easy for both musicians and non-musicians to create great sounding songs.

iLife ’08 is now available for a suggested retail price of USD$79 through the Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. The iLife ’08 suite of applications will be included with all new Macs beginning today. iLife ’08 requires Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or later, a Macintosh computer with an Intel processor, a PowerPC G5 or PowerPC G4, QuickTime 7.2 or later, a DVD drive for installation and 3GB of available disk space. iPhoto print services are available in the US, Canada, Japan and select European countries.

Numbers introduces the concept of intelligent tables on a flexible canvas, a new approach that makes it easy to organize information, create calculations, analyze results and make spreadsheets look as great as they work. Pages ’08 now features distinct modes for streamlined word processing and flexible page layout, a new contextual format bar and change tracking, and Keynote ’08 now includes text effects, transitions and themes that help users easily compose spectacular presentations, and Smart Builds with easy-to-set-up A-to-B animations that make impressive animations easy for anyone to create.

iWork ’08 is now available through the Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers for a suggested retail price of USD$79. A 30-day iWork ’08 trial will be available on new hardware and with retail copies of iLife ’08. After 30 days, the trial becomes an iWork ’08 player. iWork ’08 requires Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later, a Macintosh computer with a 500 MHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5 or Intel processor, 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended), 32MB of video RAM, QuickTime 7.2 or later and 1GB of available disk space. iLife ’08 is recommended.

As before, the MacBook is just one-inch thin and features built-in 802.11n wireless networking for up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g. Every MacBook also includes a built-in iSight video camera for on-the-go video conferencing, Apple’s MagSafe Power Adapter that safely disconnects when under strain, and iLife ’06, Apple’s suite of digital lifestyle applications.
Featuring a gorgeous 13-inch glossy widescreen display, the one-inch thin MacBook comes in three models: sleek white 2.0 GHz and 2.16 GHz MacBook models, and a stunning black 2.16 GHz MacBook model.

The new MacBooks are available immediately through the Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. The 2.0 GHz, 13-inch white MacBook sells for a suggested retail price of USD$1,099, the 2.16 GHz, 13-inch white MacBook sells for USD$1,299, and the 2.16 GHz, 13-inch black MacBook sells for USD$1,499.

Additional build-to-order options for the MacBook include the ability to upgrade to 120GB or 160GB (5400 rpm) or a 200GB (4200 rpm) hard drive, up to 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, Apple USB Modem, Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter, Apple Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, Apple MagSafe Airline Adapter and the AppleCare Protection Plan. Additional build-to-order options also include pre-installed copies of iWork ’06, Logic Express 7, Final Cut Express HD 3.5 and Aperture 1.5.

Apple today released Aperture 1.5, a major update to the all-in-one post production tool for photographers that delivers enhancements across each phase of the entire workflow. Aperture 1.5 delivers a powerful new open library, seamless iLife ’06 and iWork ’06 integration, XMP metadata support, powerful new adjustment tools and an export API that makes it easy to extend the Aperture workflow to third party applications and services.

Aperture 1.5 is available this week in English, French, German and Japanese as a free Software Update to current Aperture 1.0 customers. Aperture 1.5 is available to order for new customers for a suggested retail price of USD$299 through the Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and through Apple Authorized Resellers.
