coversutra 20070918 012129 CoverSutra updated and discounted for Back to SchoolSophiestication Software is offering a “Back to School” discount for its iTunes extender, CoverSutra. For limited time, users can purchase the application for 7.95 Euros (approx. USD$11), about 50% off the regular price of 14.95 Euros.

In addition to the discount, Sophiestication announced the immediate release of CoverSutra 1.1.7. This new version adds support for the album rating field which was introduced in iTunes 7.4. CoverSutra 1.1.7 is a free upgrade to registered users of any previous version.

The Fake Steve Jobs disses the Real Slim Shady

eminem 20070731 223427 The Fake Steve Jobs disses the Real Slim ShadyIf only the Fake Steve Jobs was the real Steve Jobs. I would so like it to go down this way.

In case you haven’t heard, Eminem’s music publisher filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Apple claiming that copyrights were violated in allowing downloads of the rapper’s songs onto iPods via iTunes.

The sticky points of the suit seem to center around whether labels hold the rights to sell an artist’s music in the form of digital downloads when they acquire the rights to sell the music on CD, or whether the labels need to secure those rights in addition. If that is the real issue, why isn’t Eminem suing his record label?

Eminem’s music publisher “demanded that Apple cease and desist its reproduction and distribution and Apple has refused” Personally, I think Apple should comply with their demands and remove the recorded material from the iTunes Store entirely. If Mr. Mathers thinks his music is being ripped off now while people are buying it on iTunes, he might want to see how well he does when his albums aren’t available on the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store.

Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6 includes stability fixes

suitcase 20070731 210346 Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6 includes stability fixesFont management continues to be akin to voodoo and, for anyone who has a large library of fonts, a more robust solution for activation than Apple’s Font Book is a must. My personal choice happens to be Extensis Suitcase Fusion. It’s not one of those applications that I rave about and it’s not one that I use grudgingly; it’s kind of in the middle ground somewhere.

Extensis has recently issued an update to Suitcase Fusion, bringing it to version 12.1.6. The update includes:

  • stability improvements including overall enhancements to font-adding and corruption checking.

  • plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe InDesign CS3
  • stability enhancements based directly on feedback from users
  • a fix for an issue in 12.1.5 where the “show missing fonts” dialog was displayed at startup under certain conditions

The update is free for registered users. Extensis Suitcase Fusion sells for USD$99.95.
