Apple makes good on Monday’s warning with a hacked iPhone bricking update

Apple today released the iPhone 1.1.1 update, downloaded to the device via iTunes. This update comes with no iPhone features as well as a dire warning; if you have hacked your iPhone, the update may render the device permanently inoperable.

The features added with this update include support for the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, louder speakerphone and receiver volume, additional functionality to the Home button, and Space Bar double-tap “punctuation + space” shortcut and iPod AV cable support.

More from ”The Lab with Leo.” We got your iTunes covered

On Episode 62 of The Lab with Leo Laporte, I set out to try and improve iTunes on the Mac by completing your album cover collection, by creating playlists to the beat of your drum, by giving you control in any application and feedback in your Dock, and by giving you automated control over iTunes itself.

Technical difficulties and time restraints prevented me from demonstrating all of the features of the software I prepared to show, so the show notes are your best resource for the tips and tricks to but iTunes in its place. Check ‘em out.
