Unsanity’s FontCard 1.2.4 adds improved support for Adobe and Quark applications

FontCard is a haxie that modifies the Font menu in Carbon and Cocoa applications. It can add an icon that displays the format of a font next to the font menu item, display the font name in the font face, group fonts into submenus, and add font collections to the font menu. This version addresses issues with Quark’s measurements palette and crashing with Photoshop 7 under Jaguar. FontCard is priced at $17.

New in Version 1.2.4

  • Finally fixed a problem that caused the Quark measurement palette to not show an FC enhanced menu.

  • Now rebuilds the font menu completely if the disabled state of the FC enhanced menu and the real font menu don’t agree. This fixes the problem with FreeHand disabling all the fonts in the font replacement dialog even though FreeHand doesn’t “own” the FontCard menu.
  • Fixed a problem that would cause FC to take up 100%+ of the CPU if a font was auto activated in some circumstances. It was bad.
  • Fixed a problem that would cause some fonts to not appear if there was a gap in the indices of their font name table. This would happen with many Linotype fonts (such as the free ones included with the free QuarkXPress 6.5 update) and the font named “identity” in particular.
  • Fixes a crash with Photoshop 7.0 and Mac OS X version 10.2 “Jaguar” Version 10.2.8 that would occur when selecting a family with multiple styles.

Unsanity updates FontCard to 1.2.1

Unsanity has made available FontCard 1.2.1. This update fixes Jaguar compatibility, changes font style listing to order by weight, and more.
New in Version 1.2.1

  • Fixes a problem that could cause FontCard to not load on Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar Version 10.2.8.

  • Font styles are now sorted by weight instead of alphabetically. It is more “natural” this way.
  • Font styles are also now sorted by the font format.
  • Moved logging around so it now logs at least the born on date if FC is disabled or expired but the user held down command and control while launching an application.
  • Fixed a crasher if you made a new Font set in Font Book, added fonts to it, and then tried to show a font set submenu in a FontCard enhanced font menu.
  • Made intial builds and rebuilds slightly faster by removing completely duplicate entries in the way fonts are stored internally.
  • Tries to ensure that the font style for the parent of a submenu is the regular style if available.
