Staying in Sync

This week I have some long-awaited and unexpected OS X solutions. Check these out…

JPlucker OS X

Disapointed by AvantGo’s pathetic lack of support for OS X? Well, do not fear, the open-source community has come to save the day. Plucker, a long time PC favorite, has made it to the Mac. With this desktop software you will be able to sync text from your favorite websites (like this one) to your Palm device.

PilotInstall

Another perpetrator of PC envy, PilotInstall has made it to the Mac. This utility allows you to install Palm apps directly without a full hotsync. Very useful for quick installs of, say, your Plucker web sites.

PDF U

From our friends at If Then Software comes a useful system addition. It provides a menu of options in place of the “save as PDF” print dialogue button. On a side note, I must apologize for using the term “Plucker” and “PDF U” in the same article, sorry.

My Favorites Martian

This extra-terrestrial utility also calls If Then home. With a name as creative as the software, the If Then guys have found a way to sync IE, Chimera and Safari bookmarks to your iPod, iDisk or FTP.

Extra Note: If Then Software provides all of its applications as “donationware” and could use any support you care to give. I think their puns alone are work a little scratch.

That’s it for this week. Join me again next week as we push the envelope of free.
