David Pogue’s ”It’s All Geek to Me” debuts Friday

In each half-hour episode, Pogue uses his unique brand of humor to help average consumers unravel the mystery behind complex electronic gadgets used in their daily lives. Whether it’s choosing the right digital camera, unlocking fun tricks on your cell phone or learning how to edit your own home videos, Pogue’s unique
knowledge and expertise helps it all make sense. The series premieres Friday, May 18, at 8 PM (ET/PT) and will air every Friday on The Science Channel.

A core member of the team that built the Mac, he wrote a bestselling book about his experiences, Revolution in The Valley OReilly Happening with Andy Hertzfeld on building the Mac.

And at Macworld 2007, Andy, also the founder of folklore.org, shares insider stories about the creation of the revolutionary Mac. Andy’s scheduled to talk and sign books at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the O’Reilly Macworld booth #2112 in the South Hall.

CMP Media LLC Trademarks ”Web 2.0” and Attacks IT@Cork!

CMP Media LLC, O’Reilly Media Inc’s production partner for their Web 2.0 Conferences, has apparently trademarked “Web 2.0″ and has submitted a cease and desist order to IT@Cork in regards to one of their upcoming conferences.

IT@Cork, a non-profit organization based in Cork, Ireland, will be presenting a Web 2.0 Half Day Conference on June 8th, 2006. According to CMP, IT@Cork’s usage of “Web 2.0″ in their conference’s title “directly violates [CMP's] exclusive rights” and “can only be viewed as a deliberate attempt to trade off the good will of CMP and cause confusion in the market.”

A reply was sent from IT@Cork to CMP, but it was met with a resounding “no” in regards to using “Web 2.0″ in future conference titles.
