Simplified DVD authoring and movie file converting available for download

Pixela Corporation, a leading manufacturer of PC peripheral hardware and multimedia software, announced today the worldwide availability of “mono DVD,” a simplified DVD authoring software for Macintosh and "monoConverter," a movie file converting software for iPod.

mono DVD can create a DVD disc of movie files recorded in .mpg format and .mod format (used in JVC Everio camcorder). mono DVD can read these movie files and allows you to arrange the file order. You can then easily create a DVD by just clicking one button. Supported disc types are DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW.
monoConverter is a file conversion software for iPod which allows you to view on your iPod TV programs recorded by TV capturing products and/or movies recorded on HDD (Hard Disc) camcorders. With a simple operation of "drag, drop & click," you can convert movie files not supported by iPod (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2) into compatible file formats (H.264 and MPEG-4). Converted files are then automatically loaded into iTunes.

Each software package can be downloaded for USD$29.95 with the option to purchase a back-up CD-ROM.

iPod Shuffle vs. washing machine

From the MacMerc Mailbag comes this story from Joerg Kilian of Hamburg, Germany. Joerg writes:

This morning I rescued my 3 year old iPod Shuffle from a 15 minute tour in the washing machine at 40 degrees celsius. After the initial shock, I put all three seperate pieces of the hardware on a stove at not more than 60 degrees celius and allowed to dry for more than 14 hours. When switching on it showed the green light and went into play mode without any difficulties. Admittedly, I have dried the hardware succesfully at least twice before after having exposed it to extensive body sweat. Great stuff!

Interesting! We’ve read many an “I washed my iPod” story since posting our own (see iPod nano vs. washing machine) back in 2005, but this is the first “spin cycle shuffle” story and most certainly the first story sent our way of an iPod being soaked with body sweat. It could be that a wash of the shuffle was in order anyway.
