In a time when it’s all about multi-touch technology and the ability to download apps, the iPod without a screen is oft forgot.

While surfing my usual haunts on these, our interwebs, I came across the Pod à Porter. It’s a neckband that attaches to the top of your iPod shuffle and channels the earbud cable around a rigid loop that you can hook around your neck.

Pod à porter is the easiest way to wear your music – even if you’re not wearing much. No more headphones dangling by your knees; no more ripping the buds from your ears when you take off your jacket.

The Pod à Porter sells for US$ 27.001 and is simple, but awesome.

iPod Freeware

Got an iPod? I wish I did. Be warned, I havenít had a chance to test these like I do my other picks. Of course, I’d rather have no iPod than a fake one.

mu iPod FreewarePodWriter

This OS X app lets you compose and synchronize notes to your iPod similar to the way notes work on a palm. This one is still in beta, so use caution!

mu iPod FreewarePod2Go

News, weather, movies, stocks, driving directions and more, synchronized to your iPod. You can even use this app to sync MacMercís RSS feed to you iPod for offline reading.

mu iPod FreewareiPodEject

This utility lets you eject your iPod from the menu bar. A very handy menu item for you iPoders.

mu iPod FreewarePodMonkey

With a name like that, you know itís going to be fun. PodMonkey lets you browse your iPod, music and all, from the Finder.

mu iPod FreewareText Reader

This free application ìreadsî text files into an audio format you can listen to on your iPod. Think of all the MacMerc stories you could listen to!

Instant Podcasting

Between Audacity and Garage Band, you can do a lot in recording and editing podcasts. However, if quick and spontaneous is your thing you’ll get tired of editing and exporting (and uploading and posting to RSS). Why not skip some of that and get it out sooner? While we’re at it, lets let someone else host the file?

Odeo

From the beginning I’ve thought Odeo was going to be good for something. Now that’s clear. Odeo has a podcasting studio that lets you record right from the browser and host the recording at Odeo. The tool is easy to use, and its easy to subscribe to your “inbox” in iTunes.

PodBasket

PodBasket will turn an online sound file into a podcast in seconds. PodBasket will create and maintain your XML. Its a great service if you record your audio locally (and host it yourself) and don’t want to mess with the XML. If you’ve got the opposite problem (XML but no enclosures) head over to FeedBurner to add your sound file to your feed.

ClickCaster

This free online service records in-browser, hosts and manages your feed. ClickCaster allows you to set advanced properties on your feed, like adding an image. If for some reason you feel entitled to sell your podcast (rather than offer it for FREE) you can do that too.

Poderator and Podomatic

Poderator supports still more advanced iTunes tagging and supports audio in other formats like AAC. Podomatic hosts and records podcasts with images and builds a front-end site to go with your podcast.

With a great selection of online podcastng tools, there’s nothing stopping you from broadcasting yourself to the pod listening world.
