Real Rhapsody To Go to be announced today, report
Newsbreaker Om Malik is reporting tonight that Real Networks will announce ‘Real Rhapsody To Go’ tomorrow at a fancy party in New York City. This is said to be a subscription model with portable songs a la Napster (which has proven to be popular with music pirates). Some details:
- Free preview (for non-paying members) of up to 25 songs per month. These are full songs not the 30 second previews made popular by iTunes.
- Microsoft’s Play4Sure DRM built-in, which is funny considering this makes Real a Microsoft customer
- Possible iPod support
We should know more later today. If history is an indicator, this new service will remain unknown to the general public while the iTunes music store rumbles on.
