Newnex FireNEX800-SX Single Mode Repeater — FireWire for miles
FireWire Depot has announced the Newnex FireNEX800-SX: a 800 Mbps 1394b Single Mode Repeater (USD$1,950) capable of sending IEEE1394 signals across a single mode optical fiber cable up to 10,000 meters in length! It does this utilizing an IEEE1394 PHY and optical transceiver (yeah I don’t understand that either–but 10,000 meters!!). The FireNEX800-SX is contained within a small box slightly larger than an iPod, which makes it unobtrusive and compact, allowing you to place it on a desktop already crowded with other things.
