SecureMac releases MacScan 2.3 Anti-Spyware

SecureMac has announced the release of MacScan 2.3, the latest version of the company’s anti-spyware package. Version 2.3 adds a blacklisted cookie scanner. This feature maintains a list of known tracking cookies, and when run, removes them from web browsers in which they are found. Version 2.3 also adds file cleaning support for additional browsers.

Upgrades from previous versions of MacScan 2 are free, and can be obtained by either selecting “Upgrade MacScan” under the “MacScan” menu, or downloading the demo version and entering a valid serial number. The demo can be registered for USD$24.95 using Paypal or credit card, either through the built-in registration system, or via the MacScan webstore.

Attached please find… nothing. Attachment Scanner Plugin saves the day.

220556982 bc0723fea9 m Attached please find... nothing. Attachment Scanner Plugin saves the day.Scanning the Mac web today I came across this post on The Unofficial Apple Weblog about a plugin for Mail.app that could have saved me some time and embarrassment the many times I have labored over writing an email only to forget to attach the file I had spent all that time explaining.

After you install the Attachment Scanner Plugin, the next time you write a message with the word “attach” or something similar in it and attempt to send it, the plugin will check to see that there is actually an attachment associated with that message. If no attachment is present, the plugin will alert you. Of course it will alert you when you reply to someone else’s email where they sent you an attachment and you quote their original text, but I’d rather have an over-zealous plugin looking out for me than none at all.

Attachment Scanner Plugin requires Mail.app on a Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or later.
