Foggy Noggin Desktopple 1.1– sweeping desktop clutter under the rug

That’s right, I said “Foggy Noggin Desktopple.” Now, you try saying that 5 times fast! Or if you’d rather, you could check out this freebie/donationware that hides your desktop with the click of of menu bar item.

Why would you want to do this? Have you ever had to take a screenshot but didn’t want it to include all the crap you have on your desktop? Well with Foggy Noggin Desktopple, you can. Version 1.1 just came out and adds Desktop Picture use and hotkey support. So now you can not only hide your cluttered desktop with the tap of a keystroke, but you can also hide the NSFW picture you have as your wallpaper as well.

Note:

Take a screenshot of your favorite flick in the DVD Player

I always love reading about ingenious methods to accomplished hobbled tasks. If you’ve ever tried to take a screenshot (Command-Shift-3 or Command-Shift-4) when you have the Mac OS X DVD Player running, you know that it is verboten, but the author of this post from Random Tech has the answer–do it in the Terminal. Evidently, Apple forgot to apply its DVD screenshot dampening DRM to the very simple Unix functions that allow you to take a quick pic of your favorite flick. Thanks for the tip!

Note:

Newsweek still uses OS9?

In a pretty serious story about hunting down terrorist webmasters, Newsweek shows off a large screenshot of a terror website. The page is shown off in IE which isn’t too much of a surprise, but the big surprise is that it’s in OS 9! With the 5th version of OS X about ready to ship, Newsweek seriously needs an upgrade. (Photo is cached here in case of link rot.)
