AKVIS Enhancer will reveal details on your picture

AKVIS LLC announces the release of AKVIS Enhancer V.2.1 image enhancement software for revealing details on a picture. AKVIS Enhancer strengthens the difference between adjacent pixels having different color gradations and reveals details within shadowed, overexposed or mid-tone areas. Where other digital photo editing programs may achieve acceptable results by manipulating two to four shots of the same scene, AKVIS Enhancer applies advanced algorithms to a single shot for spectacular outcome.

The AKVIS Enhancer plugin is compatible with Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements for Mac. For more details see the the Compatibility page. AKVIS Enhancer sells for USD$69.00. There is also a free trial, AKVIS offers 10 days of fully functional use. One license key allows activating the software on two computers.

Our Comic Art Effect becomes an Action adventure

Due in no small part to the wildly popular Comic Life application for making comic pages out of your images, our own Comic Art Effect tutorial has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence.

Lance McCord found the tutorial via a link on LifeHacker and contacted me about producing a Photoshop Action to produce the effect. Well, I’m here to announce and make available just that…

The MacMerc.com Comic Art Effect Photoshop Action.

The effect is slightly different than the one detailed in the written tutorial and had to be dumbed down for automation’s sake. But, I think you will agree, it still looks pretty slick. Download it and give it a shot. It should work with Adobe Photoshop 7 and above for Mac (or even PC). If you have any trouble drop me a line after reading the FAQs and the caveats of the original effect.

Note:Thanks also to summer2005 for the link to the original tutorial on digg.

Luxpro strikes again… UPDATE … behold the Super Tangent

Earlier this month, Taiwanese company, Luxpro introduced the Super Shuffle… an iPod Shuffle rip-off with claims of having a built-in FM transmitter, a voice recorder as well as the iPod shuffle’s own features and capabilities. Well, that product was quickly shot down. Now, Luxpro (obviously hungry for more legal action), has announced the Super Tangent

The Super Tangent is basically the same product Apple had removed from displays at CeBIT with only a few cosmetic differences and a new name. Any bets on how long until this one feels the sting of Apple’s lawyers?

Note:Interesting side note, and possibly the real reason for the change from “Shiner” to “Tangent.” Last night, when I posted the story, I did a Google search for “Super Shiner” to make sure that this news was indeed new. I came up with a few old links to something called a “Super Shiner”… but it weren’t no audio player… it was a special cleaner for latex items.. sold on a few adult web sites.
