the Sights and Sounds of Free

From instant image editing to professional audio editing, these freeware apps put you in control of your work.

Audacity

From our friends in the open-source world comes a great multi-track audio editor that supports professional standards. Audacity is a must-have for sound work and even has its own set of effects. More than I expected from a free program.

imagewell

Following along with the trend of exceeding expectations, there’s imagewell. This menu extra edits, resizes and converts images right off the clipboard. Not only that, it uploads images to iDisks or FTP sites and allows easy reshaping and annotating of those images. Cool stuff.

ClipboardSharing

Sticking around on the menu bar we find another useful utility. ClipboardSharing does just what it says – allows you to share clipboards with other Mac users on your Rendezvous network. It also gives you access to previous clipboards, making it useful on Macs going solo as well.

That should keep you busy this afternoon. Join me next week for more great free deals.

MacJams.com’s parent company starts record label

MacJams.com‘s parent company, Simig Media Inc., today launched a new record label that will publish and distribute music that is recorded and produced by musicians using their own instruments, computers, and software. Simig Media Records will feature artists who not only write and perform their own songs, but also record, mix and produce their albums using their own computers and equipment.

Simig Media Records, simultaneously announced the availability of the first album off the label, a solo piano work from musician Tobin Mueller. The second album to be released from Simig Media was announced as Peter Greenstone’s “Something” and is expected to be available for purchase soon. Both albums can be previewed at the Simig Media website, which also features information for artists, music fans, and potential partners.
