The latest additions to the MacMerc Store are a bag of hurt

image.php 20081103 204351 The latest additions to the MacMerc Store are a bag of hurtAt Apple’s Spotlight on Notebooks event last month, the post-presentation Q&A brought up the subject of Blu-Ray and specifically its absence from Apple’s product line. At the time, Steve Jobs chimed in by commenting,

“Blu-ray is just a bag of hurt. It’s great to watch the movies, but the licensing of the tech is so complex, we’re waiting till things settle down and Blu-ray takes off in the marketplace.”

Since then the bloggosphere and the twittersphere have adopted the the term “bag of hurt” and have applied it to many inelegant or difficult technologies…many of them Apple creations.

Today in the MacMerc Store, two new items have been added to our catalog that poke fun at the “bag of hurt.”

The first is an actual bag. The Tote Bag of Hurt is a simple black tote bag suitable for carrying all your Blu-Ray discs to your media PC or perhaps your Psystar Mac OS X-compatible PC. It comes in basic black and sells for USD$17.99.

The shirt is available in basic black in sizes ranging from Small to XX-Large. The Bag of Hurt T-Shirt sells for USD$21.90.

Two must-have Mac apps team up to offer discounts when bought together

1password 20080124 212424 Two must have Mac apps team up to offer discounts when bought togetherI love 1Password. I also love TextExpander. For me, they both fall under the category of must-have Mac apps. They’re the ones that make me feel like I’m missing an arm when I’m working on a Mac that doesn’t have them installed. Seriously. If you don’t have them, you should download them and try them now.

1Password is a utility that makes your passwords stronger while removing your need to remember them yourself.

textexpander 20071016 065720 Two must have Mac apps team up to offer discounts when bought togetherTextExpander is a typing shortcut tool that will let you assign strings of text to simple, short triggers so that you can flow out commonly typed phrases or paragraphs by only typing a few letters.

After you’ve tried them and you have that “a ha!” moment when you realize that you have just stumbled upon two applications that are going to make your Mac life easier, you’re going to want to buy them. Well, good news, SmileOnMyMac, developers of TextExpander, and Agile Web Solutions, developers of 1Password, have announced a joint marketing promotion. SmileOnMyMac now offers 1Password at 25% discount when purchased together with any SmileOnMyMac application. Meanwhile, Agile Web Solutions offers TextExpander in its online store at a discount of 20% when purchased together with 1Password.

Take your pick! Either way, you get great software at a great price. As of yet, I’m not sure how long this promotion will last, but I wouldn’t dawdle; these apps will save you time in the long run, don’t waste time now by not acting on this offer.

Cooliris comes to the iPhone/iPod touch

A couple of months ago, I told you about Cooliris for Safari. It was fun to play with, but I try to keep my Safari add-ons to a minimum: the app is strained enough as it is.

Today, I find out that Cooliris is available for iPhone and iPod touch. Very cool! It’s a free and available in the iTunes App Store
Cooliris comes to the iPhone/iPod touch. Being an iPhone app, it keeps pretty much to itself and once you get the hang of searching for rich media and browsing the 3-D wall with a flick of your finger or a tilt of the device, you’ll be hooked. Search for keywords or discover new images in Cooliris’ handful of categories. Stunning.
