BlindType offers more coherent drunk texting

As demonstrated in this video, BlindType is some sort of keyboard replacement for the iPad, iPhone and presumably the iPod touch (neither are actually available at the moment but we are told to follow @BlindType on Twitter for updates) that allows flawless gibberish interpretation even when every character is wrong. It can apparently even deduce what you where trying to type even if you miss the keyboard entirely as long as you remain consistent in how far off you are and stick to the proper key layout. They call this adjusting to your “perceived keyboard” and it is some form of black magic.

I can imagine this technology coming in handy for those who might like to drunk text their ex-girlfriends. Finally those unintelligible keystrokes will be properly interpreted!

I’m skeptical that BlindType can really be as good as this video suggests. I’m also curious to see if the folks creating this technology have an equally slick solution for getting my BlindTyped text into the apps that I use every day.

Free Text– Clipboard Management, Search Inside Files and More

Every once in a while, you find a free app that makes its way into day-to-day use. I think you’ll find one of today’s picks might be just such a pick.

JumpCut

This free app remembers your clipboard contents. With a configurable keystroke you can toggle through your recent clipped text and choose what you want to insert.

JumpCut is configurable, and accessible through a menu item. JumpCut does not record copied images. For that, check out PTHPasteboard – which comes in both free and shareware flavors.

Journler

This polished application manages your media clips and notes. It cleverly imports media from iLife apps and interacts with Mail and Addressbook. Smart folders take over organization and multiple export options make your data portable.

Its a pretty slick app, and version 2.5 will be the last free release. Did I mention iPod notes integration and the ability to record video clips right in the application.

SpotInside

File indexing has been part of the Mac OS for ages. SpotInside allows you to search inside text-based files (including Word, PDF and Pages) and provides an improved, straightforward interface for searching file contents.

The Source pane allows you to specify where to search. Supported destinations include smart folders and can be saved. SpotInside even saves a search history.

TextExpander defeats its Spinning Beach Ball of Death!

TextExpanderkillsitsSBBoD 20080812 152915 TextExpander defeats its Spinning Beach Ball of Death! It usually makes me cringe to post news about a product while a previous story about it is still on our front page. I don’t have that feeling as I write this particular post about TextExpander because in the 2.4 update posted today, SmileOnMyMac defeated the programs Spinning Beach Ball of Death–an achievement worthy of a second post.

As previously stated, TextExpander saves you time and typing by allowing you to replace commonly entered text with simple, customized abbreviations. I love TextExpander and the only thing that ever made me hesitant about insisting it be used by every Mac user is that clicking its menu bar would frequently result in the summoning of the Spinning Beach Ball or Death. Now, not only does the menu bar respond immediately, but you can navigate it from the keyboard.

TextExpander sells for USD$29.95 and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher.
