Roxio Toast 7 ready to power Blu-ray enabled drives on Macs

Sonic Solutions announced today the release of Toast 7 with Blu-ray Disc support — the first application of its kind for the Mac. The software ushers in a new era of advanced optical disc recording providing Mac users with the ability to store as much as 50 GB of data on a BD-R (recordable) or BD-RE (rewritable) disc. Toast 7 with BD support is available exclusively for original equipment manufacturers developing next-generation external BD drives. The first drives to feature Toast 7 with BD support are expected to be available later this quarter.

Roxio Launches Popcorn 2

Roxio today released Popcorn 2, which makes it easy for Mac users to transfer their favorite personal video entertainment to DVDs and portable devices such as an iPod, PSP or mobile phone. These innovations enhance the already highly regarded features for creating backup copies of non-copy protected personal DVDs. Popcorn 2 enables users to create portable compatible versions of all popular formats including non-protected DVD-Video, QuickTime movies, MPEG files, iMovie projects and other popular video formats. Popcorn 2 includes predefined settings optimized for standard or high-quality video output, or users can define their own custom DivX, MPEG4, or H.264 levels for bit rate, frame rate, and image size.

Popcorn 2, a Universal application, is available in retail stores across North America and direct for a suggested price of USD$49.99. Popcorn 2 is also being simultaneously released in Europe and Asia. Previous owners of Toast and Popcorn may be eligible for special upgrade pricing direct from Roxio.

Roxio announces Toast 7

Roxio today announced Toast 7 which complements and extends the functionality of the Mac OS and iLife applications with new features and capabilities that allow users to copy, save, hear and see their entire digital life on CD and DVD. Toast 7 will be publicly available direct from Roxio starting August 31 and in stores in early September.

Headlining the latest version are a number of features that make previously impossible tasks a reality for Mac users. These features include multi-image High Definition slideshows with pan and zoom effects, transitions and background soundtracks, audio DVDs with over 50 hours of rich Dolby quality music and advanced navigation, and data spanning, which allows users to backup large files, folders and applications across multiple CDs and DVDs.

Toast 7 also breaks new ground by becoming the first third-party application on any platform to support DivX 6. The integration of the latest powerful compression technology allows users, in a single step, to turn DivX format files into DVD-Video discs. In addition, users are able to convert any video file to DivX and turn iMovie HD and FinalCut HD projects into true high-definition video discs to enjoy in the comfort of their living room on their DivX HD-enabled DVD player.

Toast 7 will be available for a suggested retail price of USD$99.95. Toast 7 is currently available for pre-order from select online retailers. In the United States, a $20 mail-in rebate will be available on August 31 to current owners of Toast, Jam, Popcorn, The Boom Box, iLife, and Mac OS X. Details are included in the box. Registered Toast, Jam, Popcorn and The Boom Box users will be eligible for other discounts direct from Roxio.
