typinator screen 20080714 082214 Typinator 3.1 now with built in HTML snippetsErgonis Software has announced the release of Typinator 3.1, the latest version of its auto-typing text application. Typinator detects specific sequences of typed characters and automatically replaces them with text snippets, graphics, URLs, dates and special characters saving you a lot of time, not only typing, but looking up information.

The new version brings along a set of HTML snippets that includes over 100 abbreviations for elements of the HTML 4.01 standard. Typinator 3.1 also improves compatibility with applications such as Coda, VMWare Fusion, Butler, and Zend Studio. 3.1 also has a redesigned (and optional) menu bar icon to better match the style of Apple’s menu extras.

The upgrade to Typinator 3.1 is free for anyone who purchased Typinator in the last 2 years. Typinator sells for EUR 19.99 and is also available in family packs.

SmileOnMyMac debuts TextExpander 2.0 with Snippet groups

textexpander 20071016 065720 SmileOnMyMac debuts TextExpander 2.0 with Snippet groupsIs it wrong that on the day Apple announces the shipping date of Mac OS X Leopard I’m more excited about the release of a new version of TextExpander?

TextExpander is a keystroke saving tool that “bloops” out predetermined text (called Snippets) whenever you type simple triggers. For instance, you could program TextExpander to type your address whenever you type “adrs”; it would replace adrs with your mailing address. You can program TextExpander to plug in all kinds of text (plain or rich) or images for whatever trigger you see fit. It’s great for commonly used HTML tags and such.

Do you chronically misspell or mistype a certain word? I often screw up when I type the word “Christmas” (Merry Christams everybody!!). I have programmed TextExpander to automatically jump in and replace my oft misspelled words with the words I am trying to express. Cool!!

The new version has a bunch of new features listed below the fold and the whole thing sells for USD$29.95.
What’s new in TextExpander 2.0:

  • Snippet groups

  • Add snippet groups from external files
  • Add snippet groups from URLs (including password-protected URLs with Keychain support)
  • Synchronize snippet groups using .Mac Synchronization
  • Print snippets
  • Hotkeys to enable / disable and to create snippets from selection or clipboard
  • Enable or disable groups on a per-application basis
  • Sort snippets by date last used to identify unused snippets for possible deletion
  • AppleScript snippets, which expand to the result of the script
  • More options for sounds
  • Sound settings on a per-group basis
  • Update snippet groups from URLs and external files at regular intervals
  • Improved performance with large numbers of snippets

Note:[UPDATED: Wednesday; October 17, 2007 ] TextExpander has already been further updated to version 2.0.2
