MacBreakZ 4.8.5 helps stressed out Wacom tablet users

macbreakz 20080930 203102 MacBreakZ 4.8.5 helps stressed out Wacom tablet usersMany of us are so busy at work–chained to our computers–we never stop to take a break to stretch or rest our eyes and relax a little and in neglecting to do so, suffer from stress and even injuries. MacBreakZ is a program that monitors the strenuousness of your computer activities and can either gently remind you to “relax a bit” or downright nag you to “STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER.”

publicspace.net calls MacBreakZ a “Personal Ergonomic Assistant” and they’ve designed it to promote healthy and productive computer use. This new version adds improved support for stylus and tablet input devices. I had always thought the use of a stylus was supposed to prevent repetitive stress injuries, but I guess any stress, repeated often enough, can injure you regardless of your input device of choice.

Special considerations had to be made by the developers of MacBreakZ for Wacom tablets since the program would otherwise interpret the use of a tablet as a constant stream of signals. This constant stream would trick MacBreakZ into thinking the user was working at an insane pace. The new version contains specific tablet-related questions in the setup assistant that help MacBreakZ create a program just for you.

MacBreakZ sells for USD$24.95.

Bluelounge SpaceStation

BL Spacestation STR17 Bluelounge SpaceStationThe Bluelounge SpaceStation is a new desktop organizer and “declutterer” that combines a 4 port USB hub and 6 sets of coiling pins for keeping your cables tidy. It is available with either black or grey top sections to add to its white lower section. In the box there is also an AC adapter to allows you to plug in multiple powered usb accessories and a paper holder. The paper holder fits in a slot near on the top and lets you to display papers upright. You can also place business cards and other small pieces of paper such as pictures in this slot.

I have been testing out the SpaceStation for the last couple weeks, and I would say that over all, it has made my computer setup way more organized and neat. I’ve enjoyed having all my cables nicely coiled up, and only needing to connect one cable for my iPod, Wacom Intuos tablet, Skype Phone and Bose Companion 5 speakers.

Overall I think the SpaceStation is a excellent product, and I would recommend it to all who like their computer setups nice and neat.

Wacom updates Pen Tablet Driver for Leopard

intuos 20071211 194357 Wacom updates Pen Tablet Driver for LeopardI think I’m the only Photoshop guy I know that doesn’t work almost exclusively using a Wacom Pen Tablet. Don’t get me wrong–I have one–I just never got good enough at it that I didn’t feel the need to reach for the mouse ever again. I think a Cintiq might change my mind.

Anyway, the Pen Tablet Driver has been updated to the aid of Leopard users with the following tablets:

  • Intuos3 (PTZ)

  • Intuos2 (XD)
  • Intuos1 (GD)
  • Graphire2 (ET-A)
  • Graphire (ET)
  • CintiqPartner
  • Cintiq 21UX, 18SX, 15X and PL 500
